Toots is a big of a local legend and a guy that i always tried to check out when i was more heavily into the hip hop scene. Very glad that toots came through with this mix, and even more pleased i didn't have to pay him to do it. This mix features some hip-hop some motown and a special MJ mashup in the middle. The following info is taken from the DJ TOOTS TOOLEN fan site on facebook. Brief Bio Since starting way back in 1996 playing house parties for the University students In Hull and local College parties I have been lucky enough to still do the job I love 5/6 nights a week.My club DJ career took off in the late 1990's when I was a mere club DJ for people local legends such as Ricky J,Mike Mckay,DG A.k.A mr Roadblock although I didnt get paid it got me noticed by promoters, managers and got me into the Urban scene in Hull.I progressed to gaining my own residencies at various bars and clubs around the city before travelling around various cities on a weekly basis.By 2001 I had quit my longhaul at the factory & was a self confessed vinyl junkie. As my career took off I got to meet and more & more DJ's,people whose radio shows or mixtapes Id grown up listening to which I was now meeting in real life which was quite surreal,Even artists Whose records I was buying I was now fortunate enough to meet and work alongside.some of these amazing artists were people like112,Ja-Rule,Cassidy,Beverley Knight,Horace Brown,Womack & Womack,Ne-Yo,Bobby Valentino,Shola Ama,kele Le roc,Lemar, sway,Taio Cruz,The Roots,Nathan,Lisa maffia,Romeo,Kano,Next,Skinnyman & Mud Fam,Fallacy etc!!! Although I love working in the nightclubs I also enjoy doing mix selecetions for local radio stations,During my radio mixes I get to include the usual Rnb/Hip Hop but also 80's soul,House,Garage,Bassline & slowjamz, basically stuff i cant always get away with in the venues but still good music!I worked for viking FM from 2002-2004 doing guest mixes for the late night mix show Shinobi Takeover

About TheHi peoples. I'm a dj and producer from Hull, Yorkshire. My musical tastes are quite varied and I am planning on using these podcasts to play a mixture of the tunes that inspired me to start djing, the tunes that still make me want to Dj and basically any tunes that I love. Expect to hear Funk, Hip-hop, 80's soul, electro, house, breaks, drum and bass and even some dubstep and rock in there somewhere. I will try to theme these podcasts so that the funk and soul heads don't get a very nasty shock as I lurch into some Dubstep, but don't be surprised if by the third or fourth one they have degenerated into a bit of a free for all. P.s. When I say house I mean all facets of house. Disco, Deap, electro, fidget, broken, and even some old Chicago garage. If it's straight up four four I'm calling it house. lets get rid of all these restrictive sub-genres. I've been djing for the last ten years and have been playing out regularly for about the last eight mostly in Hull but i have also had frequent trips out the city to places like Sheffield, Leeds and London. When I first started I was playing a lot of hip-hop and still try to keep this attitude when I play out. For the last five years I have held a back room residency at Welly and have helped to grow the night into the biggest and best midweek night in the city. The sets at jelly are unbelievably eclectic but always fun, you will hear cutting edge dubstep, drum and bass and electro bumping along side older dance, soul and funk, with Hip-hop and the odd bit of pop thrown in for good measure. Don't be surprised to hear Live remixes for instance Flo rida rocking over Dubstep loops or hear 50 cent rhyming over drum and bass Maybe Girls aloud being turned into the creditable electro artist they've always wanted to be. These live re-mixes are backed up by an increasing number of home made edits and mash-ups. I also hold a sat residency at Asylum a 2000ish capacity venue for the Hulls Students, and while not being able to be as eclectic as i can on a thursday it still gives me a platform to play Non mainstream music to people who would otherwise not hear it. As well as the residencies i have played at some of the best nights in the city such as, Shinobi, Ko-rock-init, POGO, Deja vu and Twisted. As well as these guest appearances I have played alongside people such as, Pendulum, Scratch Perverts, Cut Chemist, Tim Westwood, Cut Le Roc, Zane Lowe, Benga, Nihal and many others who have slipped my mind at the present time.
